3-(1H-imidazol-4-yl)-2-propenoic acid.C6H6N2O2(138.13).ウロカニン酸, ヒスチジンを多量に与えたイヌの尿に見いだされた.菌類(枯草菌,ミクロコッカス)やかび類(ヒトヨタケ目,スッポンタケ目)からも分離されている.L-ヒスチジンに酵素ヒスチダーゼを作用させると高収率で得られ,ハラタケ,ヤマドリタケ中のヘルシニン(ヒスチジンベタイン)をアルカリと加熱しても得られる.E形の二水和物は風解性があり,針状または柱状晶.100 ℃ で無水和物となる.分解点225 ℃.pKa1 2.94±0.10,pKa2 7.82±0.10.水に可溶.生体内では代謝されてグルタミン酸となる.抗がん作用を示す.森北出版「化学辞典(第2版)

純化方法
Crystallise the acid from water and dry it at 100o. The trans-isomer [3465-72-3] has m 225o (229-230o, 230-231o or 231o(dec, from H2O) and pK1 3.5 and pK2 5.6, and the picrate has m 225o(dec, from H2O). The cis-isomer [7699-35-6] has m 175-176o (178-179o or 180-184o dec, from H2O) and pK1 3.0 and pK2 6.7, and the picrate has m 204o (from H2O).
