(S)-α-amino-1H-imidazol-4-propionic acid．C6H9N3O2(155.15)．L-ヒスチジンは，略記号HisまたはH．塩基性α-アミノ酸の一つ．タンパク質構成アミノ酸として，また遊離の状態で自然界に広く分布している．発酵法または動物タンパク質の加水分解で得られる．針状または板状結晶．分解点287 ℃．[α]20D－39.74°(水)．pK1 1.82，pK2 6.00，pK3 9.17．pI7.59(25 ℃)．水に可溶，エタノールに難溶．幼児およびネズミの生育に必須であるが，成人には必須ではない．薄い苦味があり，潰瘍治療薬として用いられる．森北出版「化学辞典（第2版）

White, odorless crystals or crystalline powder having a slightly
bitter taste. It is soluble in water, very slightly soluble in alcohol,
and insoluble in ether. It melts with decomposition between about

純化方法
A likely impurity is arginine. S-Histidine is adsorbed from aqueous solution onto a Dowex 50-H+ ion-exchange resin, washed with 1.5M HCl (to remove other amino acids), then eluted with 4M HCl as the dihydrochloride. This purified dihydrochloride (see below) is finally dissolved in water, the pH adjusted to 7.0, and the free zwitterionic base crystallises out on addition of EtOH.
