Polyethyleneimine is polymerized from ethyleneimine; therefore, ethyleneimine must be prepared first, and then it can spontaneously polymerize under the catalysis of hydrochloric acid and carbon dioxide. Polyethyleneimine used in papermaking has a degree of polymerization of approximately 100 and is a colorless, water-soluble compound. Polyethyleneimine exhibits cationic reactions in aqueous solutions and is readily adsorbed by negatively charged cellulose; therefore, it is not always necessary to add aluminum sulfate or similar substances to increase its retention rate during use. |
