General procedure for the synthesis of 1-(4-aminophenyl)piperazine from 1-(4-nitrophenyl)piperazine: 1-(4-nitrophenyl)piperazine (414 mg, 2 mmol) was dissolved in a mixed solvent of ethanol (15 mL) and tetrahydrofuran (15 mL), and 10% palladium/carbon catalyst (50 mg) was added. The reaction was stirred for 3 h at room temperature under hydrogen atmosphere. The progress of the reaction was monitored by thin layer chromatography (TLC) during the reaction. Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was filtered through a diatomaceous earth pad to remove the catalyst. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the target product 1-(4-aminophenyl)piperazine (319 mg, 90.0% yield). | [References]
