1.5 g (6.8 mmol) of 7,8-dimethoxy-1,3-dihydro-2H-3-benzoza-2-one, 1.5 g (9.5 mmol) of 1,3-bromochloropropane, and 6 mL of DMF were placed in a flask. The reaction mixture was heated to 40 °C, and 0.8 g of 40% sodium hydroxide (8 mmol) solution was added. The mixture was then heated to 60 °C and stirred for 2 hours; 30 mL of ice water was added, and the mixture was stirred for 1 hour under ice-water bath cooling. The solid precipitate was filtered off, washed, and dried. The yield of the title compound was 85%.
