Description
Copper(II) Acetate is odorless and efflorescent. It is soluble in alcohol and slightly soluble in ether and glycerol. Copper acetate has many applications, including as a fungicide, insecticide, Ultra High Purity (99.999%) Copper (Cu) Acetatecatalyst for organic reactions, as well as applications in electrolysis and electroplating. It is generally immediately available in most volumes.
Uses
Used as a catalyst in various organic reactions, particularly in the synthesis of certain dyes and pharmaceuticals.
Copper acetate has been used as a wood preservative to protect wood against decay and insect damage.
Employed in electroplating processes to deposit a layer of copper onto various substrates.
Used as a catalyst in click chemistry reactions, which involve the rapid, selective, and high-yielding formation of covalent bonds between building blocks.
Synthesis
Copper(II) acetate is prepared industrially by heating copper(II) hydroxide or basic copper(II) carbonate with acetic acid.
