Mifepristone

   Mifepriestone is a new type of antifertility drug which was first developed by Roussel-UOLSF in France in the early 1980s. It has no progesterone, androgen and estrogen activity. It was first marketed in France in 1988. Major role in endometrial progesterone receptor, can compete with progesterone receptor and the glucocorticoid receptor, has high affinity, endometrial progesterone receptor affinity for five times stronger than progesterone, under the effective dose had no obvious effect on cortisol levels, can produce a strong resistance to progesterone, make the pregnancy decidua and villi tissue degeneration, endogenous prostaglandin release, Causes uterine contraction, at the same time can make the human chorionic gonadotropin production reduced, luteal dissolution, thus making the embryo abortion. Because the drug can not cause enough uterine activity, the rate of incomplete abortion is higher when used only in the anti-early pregnancy, but it can increase the sensitivity of uterine to prostaglandin, so adding small dose of prostaglandin can not only reduce the adverse reaction of prostaglandin, but also significantly improve the rate of complete abortion. Mifepristone also has the effect of softening and dilating the cervix.
