Cholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid are the two main components of bile acids, which are produced by the liver metabolizing cholesterol. The concentrations of these two main bile acids in the human body are roughly equal. The derivatives of cholic acid are mainly produced by cholic acid-CoA, in which CoA can be exchanged with glycine or taurine to generate glycocholic acid or taurocholic acid
