Tagatose is a naturally occurring hexacarbone sugar found in yogurt, milk powder and cheese, but in smaller amounts. Tagose is a differential isomer of fructose, which is mainly produced from galactose through isomerization, decolorization, desalting, concentration and crystallization. The foreign research on tageside is earlier. In 2000, Chemical Book, FDA approved tageside as a sweetener used in food and beverage and pharmaceutical preparations. In 2001, FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives approved tageside as a food additive. China did not officially approve its use until 2014.
