Flufenicol, also known as flumethicol, is a commonly used veterinary antibiotic with a wide antibacterial spectrum, strong antibacterial action, low minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and antibacterial effect that is 15-20 times that of chloramphenicol and methylphenicol. 60 minutes after feed administration, the concentration of drugs in tissues can reach the peak, which can quickly control the disease, and it is safe, non-toxic, and no residue. It has no potential to cause aplastic anemia, and is suitable for large-scale large-scale farms to use, mainly for the treatment of bovine respiratory diseases caused by Pasteurea and haemophilus. It has good curative effect on the disease of bovine foot rot caused by Fusobacterium. It is also used for infectious diseases of pigs and chickens caused by sensitive bacteria and bacterial diseases of fish. Flufenicol is not easy to develop resistance: because fluorine atoms replace the hydroxyl group in the molecular structure of methylphenicol, it effectively solves the problem of resistance to chloramphenicol and methylphenicol. Strains resistant to thiamphenicol, chloramphenicol, amoxicillin and quinolones are still sensitive to this product. Because chloramphenicol has serious adverse reactions such as aplastic anemia and immunosuppression, it is prohibited to use in food animal production. It has been proved that the main group causing aplastic anemia in the chemical structure of chloramphenicol is the para-nitro group in the aromatic ring. Flufenicol replaces NO2 groups with CH3SO4, which changes the chemical structure, so it is used in animals without adverse reactions to aplastic anemia. As a result, it is approved for use in more than a dozen countries, including Japan, Mexico and China. Flufenicol has a wide antibacterial spectrum and is sensitive to Salmonella, Escherichia coli, Proteus, Haemophilus, actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, mycoplasma suis, Streptococcus suis, Pasteurella suis, bordetella bronchosepticus and Staphylococcus aureus. The drug is easy to absorb and widely distributed in the body. It is a fast-acting and long-acting preparation with good safety and no potential to cause aplastic anemia. In addition, the price is moderate, and it is cheaper than other drugs for the prevention and treatment of respiratory diseases, such as tymycin (mycoplasma), timicosain, azithromycin, etc., and the cost of medication is easy to be accepted by users. Because of these characteristics, domestic flufenicol has been widely used, and has become the first choice for the prevention and treatment of respiratory tract and digestive tract bacterial infections in livestock and poultry. Flufenicol should not be used in combination with quinolones, penicillins and cephalosporins, and should not be compatible with ampicillin, sulfonamides and furans.

Indication

Flufenicol can strongly interfere with bacterial protein synthesis, rapid absorption, wide distribution in the body, long half-life, no aplastic side effects, not easy to produce drug resistance, no residue, no cross-resistance. Flufenicol can be used in the treatment of systemic infection in livestock, poultry and aquatic animals, and has significant curative effect on respiratory system infection and intestinal infection.

Poultry: Colibacillosis, salmonellosis, infectious rhinitis, chronic respiratory disease, duck plague and other sensitive bacteria caused by mixed infection.

Livestock: pigs, cattle, sheep and other infectious pleurisy, asthma, streptococcal disease, colibacillosis, salmonellosis, infectious pleuropneumonia, panting disease, piglet paratyphoid, yellow and white dysentery, edema disease, atrophic rhinitis, pig lung disease, piglet red and white dysentery, no milk syndrome and other mixed infections.

Crab: Appendage canker, yellow gill, rotten gill, red leg, fluorosis and red body syndrome.

Turtle: red neck disease, furunculosis, perforation disease, rot skin disease, enteritis, mumps bacterial septicemia, etc.

Frog: cataract syndrome, ascites disease, septicemia, enteritis, etc.

Fish: enteritis disease, ascites disease, vibriosis, Edwardsiosis, etc.

Eel: Desgumming septicemia (unique curative effect), Edwardsilosis, erythroderma, enteritis, etc.

Pharmacological action

By binding to the 50S subunit on bacterial ribosomes, flufenicol inhibits the transpeptide reaction of peptidyl transferase, thus inhibiting the extension of the peptide chain. At the same time, it selectively acts on the receptors of the 70S ribosomes that make up the bacterial body, altering and interfering with the function of peptidyl transferase, thereby doubly interfering with the synthesis of bacterial proteins. The antibacterial spectrum and antibacterial activity of flufenicol are slightly better than that of sulfoxamycin, and it has strong antibacterial activity against a variety of gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacteria and mycoplasma. Pasteurella hemolyticus, Pasteurella multocida are highly sensitive to this product, streptococcus, shigella dysentery, salmonella typhi, Klebsiella, Escherichia coli and Haemophilus are sensitive to this product.
