How does hydroquinone work?

Apr 2,2026

Hydroquinone occurs naturally as a glucose ether in the leaves of many plants and in fruits. It is a skin lightening agent. The mechanism of action depends on its ability to inhibit tyrosinase synthesis, thereby inhibiting the production of melanin. Other functions of hydroquinone include its ability to inhibit DNA and RNA synthesis, and to degrade melanosomes.
