1,14-Dibromotetradecane [Br(CH2)14Br]
General procedure: Aq HBr (48%, 7 mL, 42 mmol) was added dropwise to Ac2O (12mL, 126 mmol) at 0 °C. To this solution, HO(CH2)14OH (0.44 g, 1.9mmol) was added and the mixture was brought to reflux for 24 h. After the mixture had cooled to r.t., the dihalide was extracted with hexanes and was then washed with excess H2O to remove the remaining AcOH, leaving an off-white solid; yield: 0.65 g (95%). The spectroscopic properties were identical to those previously published.
