Yield:7147-66-2 68%

Reaction Conditions:

with silica supported nano-copper (II) oxide in methanol at 20; for 14 h;

Steps:

General experimental procedure for the synthesis of benzimidazoles using silica supported nano-copper (II) oxide catalyst

General procedure: Aldehyde (1 mmol), o-phenyldiamine (1.1 mmol) and 10 mol % CuO-np/SiO2 (0.1 mmol) ere stirred in methanol (5 ml) as solvent at room temperature for the appropriate time (Table 2). The progress of the reaction was monitored by TLC. After completion of the reaction the solvent was evaporated and the residue was purified by column chromatography on a silica gel using hexane/ethyl acetate (70:30) as eluent to afford the pure product. All the products were characterized by 1H NMR and 13C NMR.Catalyst recycles/reusability: After completion of the reaction, the solution was filtered and washed with ethyl acetate (3 × 10 mL). And then the residual catalyst as such was reused without loss of a significant catalytic activity. Successive runs were carried out in order to see the recyclability of the catalyst.
