86.1 Step 1: Preparation of 1-(3-bromopropoxy)-3-chlorobenzene

A mixture of 3-chlorophenol (0.03 mL, 23.34 mmol), 1,3-dibromopropane (9.4g, 46.56mmol) and K₂CO₃ (9.66 g, 70.01 mmol) in acetonitrile (15 mL) was stirred at 80 °C for 24 hours. The solids were filtered out and the filtrate was concentrated under vacuum. The residue was adsorbed onto silica gel and purified by flash column chromatography eluted with petroleum/ethyl acetate (4/1) to afford the title compound (4 g, 16.03 mmol, 68.7% yield) as yellow oil.
