Reaction Conditions:

Steps:

3-(1H-Imidazol-1-yl)propan-1-ol (1b).
A mixtureof 2.55 g (0.0375 mol) of imidazole, 3.83 g(0.0375 mol) of trimethylene carbonate, and 6 mL oftoluene was refluxed for 5 h. After cooling, the bottomlayer was separated and distilled under reduced pressure.Yield 2.41 g (51%), bp 190-193°C (5 mm Hg).1H NMR spectrum, δ, ppm: 1.83 q (2H, CH2, J =6.5 Hz), 3.36 t (2H, CH2O, J = 6.1 Hz), 4.01 t (2H,CH2N, J = 7.1 Hz), 4.71 br.s (1H, OH), 6.88 t (1H,4-H, J = 1.3 Hz), 7.15 t (1H, 5-H, J = 1.3 Hz), 7.60 br.s(1H, 2-H). Found, %: C 57.18; H 8.03; N 22.18.C6H10N2O. Calculated, %: C 57.12; H 7.99; N 22.21.
