Compound 198.1. l-(4-Methyl-lH-imidazol-2-yl)ethanone.
Into a 500-mL round- bottom flask, was placed an aqueous solution of 2-oxopropanal (25.2 mL, 222.0 mmol, 50%). Ammonium acetate (85 g, 1.10 mol) and acetic acid (200 mL) were added to the reaction. The reaction mixture was stirred overnight at 100 °C, then concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was diluted with 300 mL of EtOAc. The organic layer was washed with 4 x 30 mL of brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by a silica gel chromatography with ethyl acetate/hexane (1 : 1) as %) of the title compound as a yellow solid.
