The process of Example 1 was repeated except that acetic acid was used in place of acrylic acid and the following conditions applied. A silver (I) oxide to CF3(CF2)7CH2CH2I (Ag2O/8-2-I), molar ratio of 0.54 and an acetic acid/8-2-I weight ratio of 4, were used with a reaction time of 4 hours at 100° C. Conversion of 8-2-I was 99.5%. Yield of the fluorinated alkyl acetate, CF3(CF2)7CH2CH2O2CCH3, was about 93% (estimated RF1.0); yield of the olefin, CF3(CF2)7CHCH2 was 0.9%; and yield of the alcohol, CF3(CF2)7CH2CH2OH was 0.5%.
