Methyl 2-[3-(Trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]acetate (CAS Registry Number: 588-26-1, WO2008078291) (3 g, 13 mmol) was dissolved in ethanol (15 mL).
To this, hydrazine monohydrate (9.7 g, 192 mmol) was added, and the mixture was stirred under heating to reflux for 8 hours. After the reaction temperature had returned to room temperature, the residue obtained by concentration under reduced pressure was purified by silica gel column chromatography [elution solvent: methanol/ethyl acetate] to obtain the title compound (1.2 g (yield: 40%)) as a white solid.
