2 (Compound No. 23)
EXAMPLE 2 β-phenoxyethylacrylate (Compound No. 23) This compound was prepared according to a known process (Chemical Abstracts Vol. 59, 11323a). Namely, acrylic acid-chloride (5g) was added slowly under ice cooling into the mixture of β-phenoxyethylalcohol (6.75g), sodium-carbonate (2.9g), cuprous chloride (0.2g) and benzene (50ml) with stirring. The mixture was allowed to stand 15 hours at room temperature and then refluxed for 4 hours. The reaction mixture was treated according to the above mentioned known process, giving a crude product (6.6g). The crude product on fractionation gave a fraction (4.7g), b.p. 88.0° C./0.1mmHg, of β-phenoxy-ethyl acrylate.
