To a solution of 4-methoxyphenylboronic acid (3.0 g, 19.7 mmol) and 2,4- dichloropyrimidine (5.9 g, 39.0 mmol) in dry acetonitrile (120 mL) was added a 0.4 M solution of Na2CO3 (120 mL) followed by Pd (PPh3) 4 (400 mg, 0.35 mmol). The suspension was degassed and heated at 90°C for 16 h, cooled down and concentrated to produce a precipitate which was collected by filtration, washed with water, dried and purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (EtOAc/CH2CI2 : 5/95) to afford the title compound 17 (4.25 g, 19.3 mmol, 97% yield).
