Steps:
1 Step 1 : tert-Butyl (3-hydroxy-3-phenylpropyl)(methyl)carbamate.
Step 1 : tert-Butyl (3-hydroxy-3-phenylpropyl)(methyl)carbamate. To a solution of 3- (methylamino)-1 -phenylpropan-1 -ol (2 g, 12.1 mmol) in dry DCM (12 ml_), di-tert-butyl dicarbonate (2.91 g, 13.3 mmol) was added at 0 °C and the reaction mixture stirred for 2 h at r.t. Water was added and the aqueous phase was extracted with DCM. The combined organic fractions were washed with sat. NaHCC>3 solution, brine and dried over Mg2SC>4. After filtration the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to afford the title compound (3.2 g, quant, yield) as oil.
