The reaction mixture was immediately concentrated on a rotary evaporator to give the free carboxylic acids (5 or 6) in quantitative yields. 2,2’-(2,2’oxybis(ethane-1,2-diyl)bis(oxy))diacetic acid (6); The product was isolated as colorless oil in quantitative yield. 1H-NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δH 3.78 (8H, m, -OCH2CH2OCH2CH2O-), 4.22 (4H, s,-OCH2O-), 10.69 (2H, s, -OH). 13C NMR (100 MHz, CDCl3) δC 173.9 (2C, CO), 71.2 (2C, OCH2CH2OCH2CH2O-), 70.6 (2C, -OCH2CH2OCH2CH2O), 68.7 (2C, -C(O)CH2O-). HRMS (ES+): calcd. for C8H14O7Na: 245.0637; found: 245.0645. Spectral values were found to be in accordance with literature values1
