Steps:

2.1 Typical procedure for thesynthesis of aromatic carboxylic acids from arylboronic acids and acetylacetate:
General procedure: Phenylboronic acid (0.12 g, 1.0 mmol)acetyl acetate (650mg, 5.0 mmol)CuI (19 mg, 10 mol%)K2CO3(0.28 g, 2.0 mmol) were dissolved in DMSO (5 mL, anhydrous). The solution was stirred at 100 °C under nitrogen atmosphere for 24h and then cooled and the solution was poured into HCl (40 mL, 1 mol/L). The mixture was extracted with CH2Cl2 (40 mL). Then, the solution was washed with HCl (40 mL, 1 mol/l), and dried over sodium sulfate. Upon removal of the solvent with a rotavapor, the resulting residue was subjected to column chromatography (petroleum ether/AcOEt 20:1) to give the desired product 3a(117 mg, 96%) as a white solid.
