Typical Procedure for the Synthesis of Benzoxazoles from Arylaldehydes

General procedure: A mixture of 2-aminophenol (0.13 g, 1.1 mmol), substitutedbenzaldehydes (2.2 mmol), and potassium cyanide (1.1 mmol)in 4 mL N,N-dimethylformamide was irradiated in a microwave oven at 450 W. The progress of the reaction was monitored using thin-layer chromatography (petroleum ether/ethylacetate, 6/2). After the completion of the reaction, the mixturewas cooled and extracted with ethyl acetate (3£10 mL) andthe organic layer was concentrated under reduced pressure.Then, recrystallization of the crude product was carried out in aboiling mixture of ethanol/water (1:1) to give the pure product.
