To a solution of 4-(bromomethyl)benzenesulphonyl chloride (1.078 g, 4.00 mmol) in 1 ,4- dioxane (30 ml) was added aqueous HCI (10%, 30 ml) and the reaction mixture was allowed to stir at 4O0C for 4 h. The solvent was removed and the residue was purified by crystallization from chloroform to give a white solid. Yield: 1.17 g (48%) 1 H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-Cf6) δ = 7.61 (d, 2H), 7.40 (d, 2H), 4.76 (s, 1 H) ppm.
