Steps:
1.1 Step 1: 4-(3-Chloropropoxy)benzoic acid (Intermediate 1)
Ethyl p-hydroxybenzoate II-1 (12 g, 72 mmol), 1,3-bromochloropropane (14.2 mL, 144 mmol)and K2CO3(20 g, 144 mmol) were dissolved in 100 mL of acetonitrile. Heat to reflux for 12 h.Excess K2CO3 wasremoved by suction filtration, and thesolvent wasevaporatedunderreduced pressureto give a white oil.15 mL of 6 N NaOH solution and 30 mL of CH3OH wereadded directlyand refluxed for 1 h.The reactionmixture was clarified, cooled, acidified to pH = 2 with 2N hydrochloric acid, and a large white solid was precipitated, filtered, washed with water, and dried to give a whitesolid powder of 14.5 g.Yield 94%
