Yield:39774-18-0 96%

Reaction Conditions:

with boron trifluoride diethyl etherate;mercury(II) oxide in tetrahydrofuran;water at 0 - 20;Inert atmosphere;

Steps:

4.2.25. Synthesis of 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-hydroxy-2-phenylethanone [(R,S)-1f]

General procedure: BF3OEt2 (389 μL, 3.1 mmol) was dissolved in 1 mL of THF/H2O (85/15) and HgO (636 mg, 3.1 mmol) was added. This mixture was stirred at 0 °C for 5 min and a solution of 5d (471 mg, 1.36 mmol) in 10 mL of THF/H2O (85/15) was added. The reaction was stirred at room temperature under argon. After 5 h, 25 mL of CH2Cl2 were added and the solution was filtered and washed with brine. The organic phase was collected and dried over anhydrous Na2SO4. CH2Cl2 was filtered and evaporated under reduced pressure. The product was purified by column chromatography (SiO2, CH2Cl2) affording 322 mg of a white solid (1.26 mmol, 93% yield).
