25.AAH Preparation of l-(4-memoxyphenyl)-N-methylmethanimine.
To a stirred solution of 4-methoxybenzaldehyde (10.0 g, 73.4 mmol) in ethanol (30 mL) at 40 °C was added methylamine (40 w % in water; 7.63 mL, 88.1 mmol). Stirring was continued for 2 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was partitioned betwee CH2C12 (20 mL) and water (20 mL), and the organic layer was washed with further water. The organics were then dried over Na2S04, and concentrated in vacuo to afford 1 - (4-methoxyphenyl)-N-methylmethanimine (1 1.0 g, 100%) as a brown oil. -NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) 8 ppm: 8.19 (q, J= 1.7 Hz, 1H), 7.69 - 7.59 (m, 2H), 6.94 - 6.87 (m, 2H), 3.81 (d, J= 0.7 Hz, 3H), 3.46 (d, J= 1.5 Hz, 3H).
