Steps:
Reaction of 5a with CsF in Refluxing MeCN;
General procedure: A mixture of 5a (0.12 g, 0.50 mmol) and CsF (0.15 g, 1.0 mmol) inMeCN (5 mL) was refluxed for 5 h, and the reaction mixture waspoured into H2O and extracted with CH2Cl2 (3 × 3 mL). The combinedextracts were dried (Na2SO4), filtered, and evaporated to give almostpure 4-phenyl-2-naphthol (3aa); yield: 0.088 g (0.40 mmol, 80%).
