Reaction Conditions:

with manganese(IV) oxide in 1,4-dioxane at 80; for 1 h;

Steps:

4-(Tetrahydro-1H-1-pyrrolylmethyl)benzaldehyde (9a).; A solution of 8a (0.325 g, 1.70 mmol) and manganese dioxide (1.48 g, 17.01 mmol) in dioxane (1.5 ml_) was stirred at 80 ⁰C for 1 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with CH₂CI₂ (50 ml_) and filtered over celite. The filtrate was concentrated to afford 9a as an oil (0.275 g, 85%). This aldehyde was used without further purification. ¹H NMR (CDCI₃): δ 9.98 (s, 1 H), 7.82 (d, 2H, J = 7.8Hz), 7.50 (d, 2H, J = 7.9 Hz), 3.68 (s, 2H), 2.54-2.48 (m, 4H), 1.78-1.76 (m, 4H); ESI MS m/z (M+1 )⁺ 190
