Stage #1: propan-1-olwith sodium hydride in tetrahydrofuran at 0 - 20; for 1.5 h;Reflux;
Stage #2: 5-bromo-2-fluoropyridine in tetrahydrofuran; for 12 h;Reflux;

Steps:

4.1.1 General procedure A for the synthesis of compounds 2a-s

General procedure: To a solution of alcohol 1a-r or benzyl mercaptan 1s (1.5 equiv.) in anhydrous THF (100 mL) was slowly added 60% sodium hydride (2.0 equiv.). The mixture was allowed to react at room temperature for 30 min then it was heated to reflux for 1 h. 5-bromo-2-fluoropyridine (1 equiv.) was added and the reaction was continued for 12 h. After cooling down to room temperature, the mixture was poured into water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phase was washed with brine, dried on MgSO₄, filtered, evaporated and purified by silica gel chromatography.
