Intermediate 3: 5-Chloro-6-methylbenzo[d]oxazol-2(3H)-one
Intermediate 3: 5-Chloro-6-methylbenzo[d]oxazol-2(3H)-one A mixture of 2-amino-4-chloro-5-methylphenol (Intermediate 2, 100 g, 0.637 mol), N,N'-carbonyldiimidazole (155 g, 0.955 mol) in THF (500 mL) was stirred at 66 °C for 1 h, the solvent was removed and the residue was diluted with water (1 L). The solid was isolated by filtration, dissolved in ethyl acetate (500 mL) and dried over sodium sulphate. The mixture was filtered and the filtrate and the solvent evaporated under reduced pressure to give 5-chloro-6-methylbenzo[d]oxazol-2(3H)-one as a yellow solid (100 g, 86%). 1H NMR (300 MHz, d6-DMSO) δ 1 1.73 (bs, 1 H), 7.35 (s, 1 H), 7.16 (s, 1 H), 2.34 (s, 3H).
