Example lb: 5-phenylfuran-2-carbonyl chloride5-phenylfuran-2-carboxylic acid (15.00 g, 79.71 mmol) was suspended in thionyl chloride (30 mL) and heated at 70°C for 4h. The reaction mixture was dried under vacuum at 60°C to give a light green solid in quantitative yield. This material was used in the next step without further purification.
