To a solution of 4,6-dichloro-2-methyl-pyrimidine (11.1 g) in THF (110 mL) were added iPr2NEt (14.2 mL) and 50% aqueous Me2NH (8.5 mL). The mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 2 hr. To the mixture was added 50% aqueous Me2NH (3.5 mL) and stirred at ambient temperature for 7 hr and concentrated under reduced pressure. To the residue was added saturated aqueous NaHC03 and the aqueous layer was extracted with CHCl3 (three times). The combined organic layer was dried over MgS04, filtered, concentrated under reduced pressure, and dried under reduced pressure to give (6-chloro-2- methyl-pyrimidin-4-yl)-dimethyl-amine (11.6 g). ESI MS m/e 172, M + Ho ;'H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) 5 2.49 (s, 3 H), 3.10 (s, 6 H), 6.24 (s, 1 H).
