Steps:
Synthesis of 2,6-bis(4′-pyridyl)-4-(3′-pyridyl)pyridine, L1
4-acetyl-pyridine (11.9 g,98 mmol) was added to an ethanol (250 mL) solution of 3-pyridinecarboxaldehyde (5.20 g,49 mmol). This solution was stirred until complete dissolution. Then, KOH pellets (7.44 g,133 mmol) and aqueous NH3 (28%, 140 ml) were successively added. The color of thesolution turned yellow and gradually black. The reaction mixture was stirred for 12 hours atambient temperature. During the stirring, a precipitate was formed. The precipitate wasfiltered off and washed with water. Greenish white solid was obtained (7.62 g, 50% yield).
