Synthesis of 4-oxotricyclo [3.3.1.1^{3, 7}] dec-2-yl methanesulfonate (lntermediate-1):

Synthesis of 4-oxotricyclo [3.3.1.1^{3, 7}] dec-2-yl methanesulfonate (lntermediate-1): A lOOOmL RB flask fitted with magnetic stirrer was charged with methanesulfonic acid (416.0 g, 4328.8 mmol) and Starting Material-1 (50.0g, 333 mmol). To this sodium azide (23.0g, 351 mmol) was added portion wise for 2 hours. Then reaction mixture was stirred at 20-25°C for 3 days. Upon completion of the reaction (reaction monitored by TLC), reaction mixture was quenched with ice-water (3000 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate (1000X3 mL). The organic layer was washed with brine solution, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated to give title lntermediate-1 (54. Og, yield = 66%).
