General procedure for synthesis of ethyl (2-chloroacetamido) esters (11a-e)
General procedure: Amino esters (10), which were obtained from corresponding acids (9) were cooled to -10 °C before beingtreated with a solution of bromoacetyl chloride (1 mmol) and potassium carbonate (3 mmol) in a mixture ofdichloromethane and water (1:1). The resulting solution was allowed to warm up to room temperature beforebeen stirred for 16 hours at the same temperature. After this reaction time, the mixture was extracted withdichloromethane, and the organic extracts were subsequently washed with brine before being dried overMgSO4 and filtered before being concentrated on a rotary evaporator. The products obtained were usedwithout further purification. Ethyl (2-chloroacetyl)glycinate (11a).13 Compound was obtained as a white solid (4.90 g, 96%); m.p = 75-76 °C.Spectroscopic data were similar to the one described by Kumar et al.
