N-FMOC [2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl]carbamate 12, was preparred conveniently from 2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethylamine (1.5 mol eq) and FMOC-C1 (1.0 mol eq) in saturated sodium bicarbonate (5 mL/mmol) and THF (2 mL/mmol), acidification until pH 2, extraction of the product by dichloromethane, evaporation and crystallization of the pure material from small amount of toluene. To a solution of 12 (1.61 g, 4.9 mmol) in dry pyridine (10 mL), bis-triazolide 13 (37 mL, 7.4 mmol) was added in a single portion, and the reaction mixture was stirred for 1 hour at RT. The reaction was quenched with 1M triethylammonium bicarbonate (5 mL) and the mixture was partitioned between dichloromethane and 1 M triethylammonium bicarbonate. The organic phase was evaporated; residue co -evaporated with toluene and the product 14 was isolated by flash-chromatography on silica gel 60A with methanol / dichloromethane gradient. Yield 2.15 g (85 %).
