-

Yield:6319-96-6 84%

Reaction Conditions:

in sodium hydroxide;diethyl ether

Steps:

64.A A.
A. Chloroacetyl glycine Glycine (1.5 g, 20 mmol) was dissolved in 2N NaOH (25 ml, 50 mmol) and ether (20 ml) was added. Chloroacetyl chloride (2.26 g) dissolved in Et2 O (20 ml) was added dropwise at 0° C. The mixture was stirred at 0° for 30 minutes and at room temperature 1 hour. The layers were separated and the water layer was washed with Et2 O (2*20 ml). The water layer was then acidified to pH 2 with concentrated HCl and the product was extracted into EtOAc (3*50 ml). The combined EtOAc extracts were washed with brine, dried (MgSO4), and freed of solvent in vacuo to give title acid compound as a solid (2.56 g, 84%) which was used without further purification.
