General procedure for the synthesis of 3a-h
General procedure: A solution of diamine (20 mmol) in absolute ethanol (30 mL)was slowly added to a solution of aldehyde (40 mmol) in absoluteethanol (20 mL). The stirred reaction mixture was refluxed for4 hr. After cooling, a precipitate was formed which was collectedby filtration, washed with cold ethanol, and recrystallized froma 9:1 mixture of ethanol and water.
