3.5 Typical procedure for preparation of benzohydrazones. Preparation Method V (see Scheme 4)
General procedure: Preparation of N′-(2-hydroxy-5-methoxybenzylidene)-4-nitrobenzohydrazide (SA45). A methanol (100ml) mixture of 4-nitrobenzohydrazide (181mg; 1mmol) and 5-methoxysalicylaldehyde (152mg; 1mmol) was refluxed for 4h. The solvent volume was reduced to ∼10ml by atmospheric evaporation followed by evaporation at reduced pressure to yield a white solid residue. The solid was mixed with ether (20ml) and sonicated with refluxing for 10min. The suspension was left at room temperature for 30min. An insoluble white precipitate was separated by filtration, washed with ether (3×5ml) and dried on air to give pure product (280mg; 89%).
