Zinc acetate synthesis

9synthesis methods
Zinc acetate is prepared by the reaction of acetic acid with zinc oxide followed by crystallization (crystals of dihydrate obtained): ZnO + 2CH3COOH → (CH3COO)2Zn + H2O.

Yield:557-34-6 84%

Reaction Conditions:

Stage #1: acetic acidwith sodium hydrogencarbonate in methanol;water at 25; for 2 h;
Stage #2: zinc(II) acetate dihydrate in methanol;water at 50; for 2 h;

Steps:

2.3. Synthesis

Aqueous solution of sodium salt of cinnamic or acetic acid, obtained by reacting2 mmole of the respective acid with equimolar amount of sodium bicarbonate, was added dropwise into aqueous solution of zinc(II) acetate dihydrate in mole ratio 2:1.The reaction mixture was stirred for two hours at 50 C, the resultant solid productwas filtered, washed and air dried to get the precursors (I1 and I2). The precursor wasdissolved in methanol with subsequent addition of the respective secondary ligand toit. The reaction mixture was stirred again for another 3-4 h under ambient temperature.The clear solution, thus obtained, was left for evaporation at room temperatureto obtain 1-8.
