Yttrium oxide or hydroxide is dissolved in hydrochloric acid, evaporated, concentrated, cooled, and then washed with ethanol and ether to obtain its hexahydrate. The hexahydrate is then dehydrated in a hydrogen chloride stream at 70°C to obtain its monohydrate. Finally, the monohydrate is heated in a helium stream at 1000°C to obtain anhydrous Yttrium(III) chloride. |
