[Uses] 1-Acetyl-4-piperidone is used as an intermediate in the manufacture of chemicals and pharmaceutical drugs, and manufacture of fentanyl.
[Purification Methods] Purify it by fractional distillaton through a short Vigreux column (15mm, p 11). The 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone has m 212-213o (from EtOH). It is freely soluble in H2O but insoluble in Et2O. [McElvain & McMahon J Am Chem Soc 71 901 1949, Beilstein 21/6 V 246.]
