ChEBI: A magnesium salt composed of magnesium and citrate ions in a 3:2 ratio. | [Biological Functions]
Trimagnesium dicitrate(3344-18-1) is an organic magnesium salt formed by the combination of three magnesium ions with two citrate ions, with the chemical formula Mg(C₆H₅O₇)₂. The magnesium content is approximately 16%. It primarily absorbs water in the intestines through osmosis, simultaneously facilitating the uptake of magnesium ions into the body alongside water. This absorption process is relatively indirect. Trimagnesium dicitrate is commonly used to relieve constipation, empty the bowels (such as for preoperative preparation), and may help improve digestive function, prevent kidney stones, and regulate electrolyte balance.
