Traditional methods for synthesizing halogenated benzonitrile include photohalogenation, ammonia oxidation, phase transfer catalytic synthesis, or the reaction of carboxylic acid with urea. This paper uses substituted benzaldehyde as the starting material to generate 2,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde oxime, which is then reacted with hydroxylamine for dehydration to obtain substituted benzonitrile. Although this route involves more steps, each step yields high amounts, and the product is easy to separate and purify, making it a feasible route.
