[Synthesis]

The specific process for synthesizing 2-(2-Aminoethoxy)ethanol via the low-pressure method from diethylene glycol is as follows:

Method for Synthesizing 2-(2-Aminoethoxy)ethanol

1. Before feeding the reaction materials, replace the air in the reactor with nitrogen, then continuously introduce preheated hydrogen into the reactor, raising the catalyst temperature to 180-240℃ and the pressure to 1.60-1.75MPa;

2. Vaporize liquid ammonia and mix it with hydrogen to obtain a mixed gas, then preheat the mixed gas to 240-280℃;

3. Mix diethylene glycol and soft water to obtain a mixed liquid, then preheat the mixed liquid to 230-280℃;

4. The preheated gas mixture from step 2 and the preheated liquid mixture from step 3 are fed into the reactor from step 1. A gas-liquid phase catalytic ammoniation reaction (a continuous reaction) is carried out in the presence of a catalyst at 1.60-1.75 MPa and 180-240 °C to obtain a crude product. After cooling, the crude product is separated into gas and liquid by a gas-liquid separator. The gas mainly consists of hydrogen and ammonia and can be recycled. The liquid is crude 2-(2-Aminoethoxy)ethanol, with a 2-(2-Aminoethoxy)ethanol content of approximately 35%, which is then sent to a purification system. Due to fewer side reactions, the purified 2-(2-Aminoethoxy)ethanol has a purity of ≥99%.

Hazard InformationBack Directory
[General Description]

A colorless liquid with a faint fishlike odor. Combustible but difficult to ignite. Corrosive to tissue. Combustion produces toxic oxides of nitrogen.
[Reactivity Profile]

2-(2-AMINOETHOXY) ETHANOL is an aminoalcohol. Neutralizes acids in exothermic reactions to form salts plus water. May be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, anhydrides, and acid halides. Flammable gaseous hydrogen is generated in combination with strong reducing agents, such as hydrides.
[Air & Water Reactions]

Water soluble.
[Health Hazard]

TOXIC; inhalation, ingestion or skin contact with material may cause severe injury or death. Contact with molten substance may cause severe burns to skin and eyes. Avoid any skin contact. Effects of contact or inhalation may be delayed. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may be corrosive and/or toxic and cause pollution.
[Potential Exposure]

Used to remove gases from natural gas; in coatings in plastics; textiles, fibers, and metals; and in making other chemicals.
[Fire Hazard]

Non-combustible, substance itself does not burn but may decompose upon heating to produce corrosive and/or toxic fumes. Some are oxidizers and may ignite combustibles (wood, paper, oil, clothing, etc.). Contact with metals may evolve flammable hydrogen gas. Containers may explode when heated.
[First aid]

Move victim to fresh air. Call 911 or emergency medical service. Give artificial respiration if victim is not breathing. Do not use mouth-to-mouth method if victim ingested or inhaled the substance; give artificial respiration with the aid of a pocket mask equipped with a one-wayvalve or other proper respiratory medical device. Administer oxygen if breathing is difficult. Remove and isolate contaminated clothing and shoes. In case of contact with substance, immediately flush skin or eyes with running water for at least 20 minutes. For minor skin contact, avoid spreading material on unaffected skin. Keep victim warm and quiet. Effects of exposure (inhalation, ingestion or skin contact) to substance may be delayed. Ensure that medical personnel are aware of the material(s) involved and take precautions to protect themselves. Medical observation is recommended for 24 to 48 hours after breathing overexposure, as pulmonary edema may be delayed. As first aid for pulmonary edema, a doctor or authorized paramedic may consider administering a drug or other inhalation therapy.
