GLYCOLALDEHYDE Usage And Synthesis
UsesGlycolaldehyde is derived from 2,2-Diethoxyethanol (D441940), which is used in the synthesis of neooxazolomycin, part of the oxazolomycin family of antibiotics. Also used in the synthesis of pyrimidine based inhibitors of phosphodiesterase 7 (PDE7).

Synthesis

Glycolaldehyde was prepared as follows: formaldehyde (30 mmol) was placed in a reactor, then N,N-dimethylformamide (10 ml) was added to the reactor, amidine catalyst I-K (0.15 mmol, as shown in FIG. 2) or silica gel solid-loaded triazole catalyst A-H (1 g, 0.15 mmol triazole salt/g of the carrier, as shown in FIG. 2), and the additive triethylamine ( 0.70 mmol). The reactor was installed and the reaction was stirred at a temperature of 0-300C and a pressure of 0-10 MPa for 1-1000 min.
