Irbesartan is an Angiotensin ⅱ (Ang ⅱ) receptor inhibitor. The Angiotensin ⅱ receptor can be divided into AT1 and AT2. Irbesartan can inhibit the transformation of Ang ⅰ into Ang ⅱ by selectively blocking THE AT1 receptor of AnglI, and can specifically antagonize the Angiotensin converting enzyme 1 receptor (AT1). The antagonistic effect of AT1 is 8500 times that of AT2. By blocking the binding of Ang ⅱ to AT1 receptor selectively, the vasoconstriction and the release of aldosterone are inhibited, and the antihypertensive effect is produced. It does not inhibit angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), renin, and other hormone receptors, nor does it inhibit ion channels involved in blood pressure regulation and sodium balance. Irbesartan also reduces electrical remodeling of the heart muscle, thus reducing mortality in hypertensive patients. Irbesartan is currently the most effective drug in the treatment of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.
Function:
Irbesartan is an Angiotensin 2 Receptor Blocker. The mechanism of action of irbesartan is as an Angiotensin 2 Receptor Antagonist.
Irbesartan is a nonpeptide angiotensin II antagonist with antihypertensive activity. Irbesartan selectively and competitively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the angiotensin I receptor. Angiotensin II stimulates aldosterone synthesis and secretion by adrenal cortex, which decreases the excretion of sodium and increases the excretion of potassium. Angiotensin II also acts as a vasoconstrictor in vascular smooth muscle.
