2.7 4.2.1 1-(1-piperidyl)propan-1-one (A1a)
General procedure: Piperidine (21.73 mL, 0.22 mol) was taken in chloroform (25 mL) and cooled in an ice bath. Propionyl chloride (9.61 mL, 0.11 mol) was added in a drop-wise manner to the above solution of the amine and the mixture was stirred for 30 min. The chloroform layer was initially worked with 10% sodium carbonate solution, then with water and dried over sodium sulfate. After the chloroform layer was retrieved, the pure product obtained was concentrated under reduced pressure.
